Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of many Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading them. They can be a great source of extra damage, more AD or even more attachments.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to modernized Common or Magic equipment due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item upgrader kit that they're connected to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of games and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at bonfires. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items that have upgrade components within them by using an expert or greater salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. The upgrade of an armor piece to its highest upgrade level will boost its damage absorption. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it must be heavier.

There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game and each one has distinct effects. For instance, certain upgrades will grant the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade that an item will receive, as shown below.

A few upgrades are magic or a hybrid of technology and magic, which is shown by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Some upgrades also require charges in order to be used. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are either constantly updated or never expire based on the upgrade.

The cheapest method to upgrade armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be found by exploring the area and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive but it can be obtained through smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant boost in stats, and item upgrader Kit are worth the cost.

The process of upgrading an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will greatly increase its defense values however, the user must be aware that putting on weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. For this reason, it is typically not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces beyond +9, since the added defense is usually not worth the additional weight and power cost of the upgrades needed.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of a weapon. For example an upgrade could increase the damage dealt by the shells of a shotgun or the accuracy of the rifle sniper. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity to cause more damage) are two examples.

The majority of upgrades to weapons require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade to apply. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests, taking out a certain number of monsters or bosses or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee of a set number of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade the higher the level. The cost of upgrades will be less if you have more than one of the upgrade item materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your equipment and weapon sets has changed a bit. To improve their skills faster, many players be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Additionally, players should consider upgrading the weapons favored by their teammates to increase their power and effective. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F so that he can unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when used with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to improve the stats of a character or to provide additional effects in armor and weapons. All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a sufficient level to obtain them. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without damaging the original. However, you can only replace the jewels in an equipment piece once.

Using more jewels in a movement will make it more smooth and is typically performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. In addition to improving performance, the jewels create a surface that is harder than metal, so repeated friction from pivots won't damage them as easily.

In addition to the above upgrades players can also obtain glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs give a slight boost and can be freely swapped, but they're not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components like traits or aegis can't be exchanged and can only be recovered by using an Upgrade extractor or salvaging using Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can provide your hero with various small, but useful, benefits. They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and by doing road interactions. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket a player unlocks will be the cloak. It grants a small but useful bonus to speed of movement and the ability to escape. The player will then be able to acquire rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be put into any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and only works with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't fighting. This lets a hero be more efficient while inactive. It also helps compensate for the lack of a good slot in the talent tree or team which would normally be filled by the hero's optimal stats.

A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item level upgrade to be upgraded. This is true especially if you're looking to upgrade several stats on an item upgrader Kit. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat than two less important ones.

In the beginning of the game players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their yellow trinket to a red in the middle and top players will usually opt for a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a major impact on the hero's map control abilities.

In addition to the items listed above, players may also find a number of other items in the form of trophies and awards. They can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, completing the main quest for a chapter or defeating a boss. You can see them by clicking on the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
