WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor Item Level Upgrade or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item level upgrade will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
